Every elaborate Kashgai rug is unique; each individual piece can take months or even years to complete. Hand made by the largest nomadic tribes in Iran, there are no rigid blueprints or plans for each design; rather, the rugs are inspired by the surroundings and the creative flair of the master weavers. Predominantly, wool is sheered from roaming flocks and used in the warp, weft and pile. It is often dyed locally to create the mesmerising, irregular shades known as the 'abrash'.
