Crafted in India from mango wood, this plate has a natural and organic beauty that looks stunning as part of a simple table setting of linen, metal and glass. Nkuku is an environmentally aware company that endeavour to create products using recycled and natural materials through sustainable methods of production. They consider the environment in everything they do and the impact of selling. Nkuku was born when the founders spent a year out travelling around Africa and India. They wanted to find a way to promote and develop the traditional skills of the artisans they met along the way and improving the challenging living standards and restricted opportunities present. This means each product made pays the workers a decent wage for their work; conditions are safe and of a good standard; and no children are exploited. The name was borrowed from a village in Zambia, where it was whitewashed on a hut. Note: This product is not waterproof and should only be used for dry foods. If the product starts drying out, it can be treated with a good quality edible oil such as olive or walnut oil. This can be done by rubbing the oil onto the surface whenever the wood begin to looks dry. Another option is to rub the surface with two or three coats of 100% pure bees wax, which helps to create an attractive sheen.
